Description: This is the third edition of one of the most recognizable oncology textbooks. It includes many updates over the previous edition of 2000.
Purpose: An excellent effort was made to encompass all aspects of clinical oncology and the vast developments in the field that have occurred in recent years. The organization is superb and the writing of high quality throughout.
Audience: Qualified experts have contributed to this textbook. Despite the complexity of the subjects, the authors have generally succeeded in presenting the material in a way that is readily understandable. There is a strong educational focus which makes this book particularly useful for oncology trainees.
Features: The book is divided in three sections covering the science of clinical oncology, problems common to cancer and its therapy, and specific malignancies. Each chapter begins with a succinct summary that highlights its salient points. Moreover, the book is rich in algorithms and illustrations. A CD-ROM is provided which readers will find helpful, especially given the large size of the book.
Assessment: This book without doubt ranks among the best comprehensive oncology textbooks.
